Sperm retrieval<\/h2>\n

Sperm retrieval is a procedure that treats cases of azoospermia, that is, when the semen analysis confirms the absence of sperm in the semen. There are 5 sperm retrieval methods and two distinct causes of azoospermia:
\r\n
\r\nObstructive azoospermia is when sperm are produced, but they do not reach ejaculation. The causes may be retrograde ejaculation or the existence of an obstruction in the testicles or epididymides (a small duct located in the reproductive organ where the sperm produced by the testicles are stored), resulting, for example, from an infection. In these cases, the PESA and MESA methods are used to extract sperm from the epididymides and subsequently perform IVF\/ICSI.
\r\n
\r\nNon-obstructive azoospermia is a somewhat more delicate case. In this condition, there is no sperm production. The main causes are problems in the production of the hormones testosterone, LH (which activates testosterone production), and FSH (the hormone that initiates sperm production). Treatment involves administering these hormones to the patient, and the TESA, TESE, and micro-TESE methods are used to extract sperm directly from the testicles in different ways.

\r\nLet\u2019s better understand each of these methods below:

PESA: Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration<\/h3>\n

In this technique, sperm extraction is performed from the epididymis. Sperm are found in 95% of cases, but if they are not found in the first extraction, the procedure is repeated. PESA must be synchronized with the IVF\/ICSI cycle or performed for cryopreservation.
\r\n
\r\nAmong the indications for this type of extraction are patients who have undergone vasectomy or have obstruction of the vas deferens.
\r\n<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

ADVANTAGES<\/h4>\n

    Simple procedure, using a micro-needle. There is no incision in the scrotum;<\/p>\n <\/li>\n

    No hospitalization is required. Anesthesia is local and there is no need for an operating room;<\/p>\n <\/li>\n

  • \n

    DISADVANTAGES<\/h4>\n

      Extraction is not always possible;<\/p>\n <\/li>\n

      There is a possibility of epididymal injury, which impairs a new PESA attempt on other occasions;<\/p>\n <\/li>\n
