SHARED DONATION
EMBRYO DONATIONIt is simply the donation of surplus fertilized embryos to those who no longer have eggs or sperm but still wish to undergo in vitro fertilization to have children. Patients without eggs who are pursuing single parenthood also commonly accept donations.
By law, the donation must be voluntary and anonymous. Donors are couples who were highly successful in producing healthy embryos during their IVF/ICSI process, chose to cryopreserve their surplus embryos, but no longer wish to have children.
As donors must necessarily be young, that is, under 35 years of age, success rates are high. It is also a simpler procedure for the recipient, who does not need to use hormones for ovarian stimulation.
Before embryo transfer, however, the recipient must undergo endometrial preparation through hormone administration. First, estrogen is taken orally. After an ultrasound confirms that the uterus is ready to receive the embryos, progesterone is administered vaginally. This stage of the process is essential, as it creates the ideal hormonal and physiological conditions in the recipient’s uterus for the embryo to implant in the endometrial lining and for a successful pregnancy.
The pregnancy test is performed 9 to 12 days later, depending on the stage of embryo development at the time of transfer.
