PREIMPLANTATION GENETIC TESTING (PGT)
Like PGT, this test is performed concurrently with the IVF/ICSI process to detect possible abnormalities in fertilized embryos, but in a simpler way. It measures the amount of genetic material within the embryos after a biopsy by counting the chromosomes, ensuring that only those containing exactly 46 chromosomes (euploid embryos) are implanted in the uterus.
Aneuploid embryos, that is, those with more or fewer chromosomes than normal, usually fail to implant in the uterus, result in miscarriages, or lead to congenital diseases in children. PGT-A reduces these possibilities by selecting only embryos with the correct chromosome number for implantation.
An important tool for couples whose embryos have a higher likelihood of resulting in children with chromosomal disorders, PGT-A is recommended for individuals with a history of miscarriages, unsuccessful IVF treatments, previous embryos with chromosomal abnormalities, or patients with a uterine age over 35 years.
