PELVIC ULTRASOUND

PELVIC ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that works by transmitting and receiving sound waves (echoes). It allows us to identify and evaluate internal organs with ease, including the uterus and ovaries, enabling the rapid diagnosis and, consequently, treatment of infertility.

The examination enables the diagnosis of many uterine conditions, such as fibroids, polyps, endometrial abnormalities, and congenital malformations. It is also possible to detect cysts, endometriomas, and other ovarian tumors, in addition to assessing ovarian reserve through antral follicle count. In the fallopian tubes, it is possible to identify the presence of fluid accumulation (hydrosalpinx). It may even help identify pelvic endometriosis.

Ultrasound is also used during intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF/ICSI, and ovulation induction treatments for timed intercourse. It is used to monitor endometrial thickness and follicular growth during the ovarian stimulation phase. In IVF/ICSI, it also guides follicular aspiration for egg retrieval. The examination is also essential during embryo transfer.
